Discussions are ongoing with interested donor-funded agencies and local government authorities to develop the Pekoe Trail Host Programme as a structured pathway for local community members to build skills and participate in tourism-related employment and livelihood opportunities.
The programme is designed to cover:
- Trail guidance and visitor interaction.
- Hospitality and service standards.
- Storytelling and interpretation.
- Responsible tourism and environmental awareness.
- First aid and emergency response.
The programme also provides for the development of Specialist Hosts who can deliver thematic experiences in biodiversity, birdwatching, tea heritage, tea tasting, traditional food, culture and community storytelling.
The objective is to strengthen local skills while enabling visitors to experience the trail through the knowledge and perspectives of the communities that live along it.
