The Pekoe Trail Company (Guarantee) Limited (TPTC) continues to position The Pekoe Trail as a signature nature-based tourism experience for Sri Lanka, combining walking with tea heritage, biodiversity, culture and community encounters. Building on the trail’s international recognition, including the British Guild of Travel Writers’ Best International Tourism Development Project Award (2023), National Geographic’s Best of the World (2024) and TIME’s World’s Greatest Places (2025), TPTC continues to strengthen the trail’s global profile through destination marketing, the development of Signature Experiences, engagement with international travel operators, media hosting and responsible tourism initiatives.
Recent milestones include being shortlisted among the top two contenders for the World Trails Network (WTN) Trail Tourism Award 2026, with the winner to be announced at the WTN conference in Australia in October 2026. This recognition places The Pekoe Trail among leading international trail tourism initiatives and highlights its potential as a model for sustainable trail development, community engagement and destination stewardship.
The trail’s inclusion in Intrepid Travel’s 2027 Not Hot List further strengthens Sri Lanka’s positioning as a destination for travellers seeking less-discovered places, authentic cultural encounters and responsible, experience-led travel. This recognition creates an opportunity to attract visitors beyond traditional tourism centres, encourage exploration of the Central Highlands and generate wider economic opportunities for communities along the trail.
Together, these achievements support TPTC’s efforts to establish The Pekoe Trail as a globally recognised hiking destination while showcasing Sri Lanka’s natural and cultural heritage through sustainable tourism.
